I have given some basic information below about the state of Manipur, for more detailed information on the region, please follow the links to the external webpages which I have found to also give good information on the region.
The Physical Land
The land itself is mostly mountains which are covered with dense forests. Amongst these mountains is a valley through which the Manipur River flows. This valley is the most densely populated area of the Manipur state and is the bed to the largest fresh-water lake in India.
Bamboo, oak, Teak, Pine and Magnolia all grow in the forests of Manipur. The main crops grown in the region are rice, corn, sugarcane, pulses and tropical fruits.
Political Situation
Manipur is a state found in hanging on the north-eastern arm of India which wraps around the country of Bangladesh. It shares North, West and South borders with three other Indian states (Nagaland, Assam and Mizoram respectively) and its eastern border is shared with Myanmar (formally known as Burma).
The state has its own legislative assembly which consists of 60 seats filled by members under one house. Of this assembly, one member represents them in the Indian upper house and two represent them in the lower house. Within Manipur there are eight local administrative government districts.
